Following the conclusion of 2017, statistical experts agreed after verifying their observations that the year had been the best in terms of passenger safety. The prestigious Dutch company To70 Air Consultancy, established in 2000, calculates the numbers. The report includes three deadly incidents, which initially dealt with the fall of the Embraer, a Brazilian-made aircraft, due to bad weather with seven people on board. All those aboard were killed. Despite the fears of many people, there were no aircraft accidents due to illegal interference, in other words, the desire to kill. In fact, the greatest threat to safety in the air comes in the form of a simple battery. Lithium-ion batteries are used in many electronic devices, yet they are at risk of ignition. Passenger education is therefore the key to ensuring that such batteries are not taken in travelers’ bags, as well as training the crew to ensure that any fires in the cabin are extinguished before posing a serious risk to those on board. There is no room for complacency in this matter.
Motor-related accidents continue to increase from time to time. In 2017, an Airbus A380 was hit by an accident that resulted in the loss of the fan and bonnet while flying. The plane, which was en route from Paris to Los Angeles, was forced to land at Goz Bay military airport in Newfoundland province to assess damage. No one aboard was hurt.
