Azerbaijan’s largest airline Azerbaijan Airlines (also known as “AZAL”) has cancelled a $1 billion contract for the purchase of 10 Boeing 737 MAX aircrafts. A spokesman for AZAL confirmed that the cancellation was motivated by “safety concerns”.

Boeing’s 737 MAX has been grounded by regulators around the world for almost 3 months now, following two crashes that killed over 300 people.

A member of  the International Air Transport Association (IATA), AZAL’s fleet comprises of 25 aircraft.
