Zukisa Ramasia has been appointed CEO of South African Airways. The 55-year-old executive was until now the General Manager of Operations of South African Airways. The appointment follows the resignation of former CEO of South African Airways Vuyani Jarana who threw the towel after concluding that he would not be able to complete the airline’s revival plan successfully, blaming it on the lack of state funding and heavy bureaucracy.

“We just want you to stand up a bit so that people can see you. As the acting CEO of the SAA in the interim until the process that we’re starting to source permanent CEO has gone the full hog,” said Thandeka Mgoduso, a board member of South African Airways.

The airline has started to search for new CEO both domestically and worldwide.

Newly elected President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa has pledged to reform all public companies. State-owned South African Airways has been labelled a threat to the country’s growth by rating agencies. The airline has been losing money every year since 2011 amidst scandals of corruption, mismanagement and scandals of pilots flying without valid licenses. The airline needs more than USD 260 million capital injection in order to complete this year.
