Last week, American Airlines announced that it would extend the grounding of Boeing 737 Max through September 3, resulting in a number of flight cancellations. Southwest Airlines, one of the two other US airlines which counts 737 Max aircraft in their fleet, has follow suit by announcing that flights would be cancelled through September 2.

In a press release, the airline said:

“Southwest Airlines continues to await guidance from Boeing and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) on the impending 737 MAX software enhancements and training requirements”

Southwest Airlines possesses 34 of the Boeing 737 Max aircraft in its fleet. Due to the global grounding of the 737 Max, all the 737 Max flights will be cancelled, resulting in the cancellation of 100 flights per day.

The Dallas-based carrier has announced that it would contact all passengers that were supposed to fly on the 737 Max and offer them to fly on another flight.

The Boeing 737 Max has been grounded since March 2019, following two crashes that involved a problem in the anti-stalling software.
