Reports state that a new airline will soon be issued with an air transport business license, and that airline is Bamboo Airways, a startup based in Vietnam, founded in 2017. This will be the fifth Vietnamese airline, but Bamboo Airways has some rather interesting plans for the future that could make this airline stand out from the rest…

Bamboo Airways

Big plans for Bamboo Airways

The airline is planning to operate flights within Vietnam firstly, with a fleet of 30 aircraft. It’s predicted operation will begin towards the end of 2018 or at the beginning of 2019. From then, it is believed Bamboo will branch out further afield with flights serving Korea, Japan and China. The airline’s future plans are then to move into the US.

A massive boost for Quy Nhon tourism

With plans for a hub at Quy Nhon, this could be big news for tourism. Quy Nhon is a beautiful part of Vietnam, with some stunning beaches and lovely hotels, but being so remote (it’s a 20 hour drive from Hanoi), it’s rarely visited by tourists. Once travellers can get there more easily, without having to suffer a very long journey by road, it’s certainly going to be way more attractive to tourists and it’s definitely an ideal holiday destination.

Boeing and Airbus orders have been placed

The company behind Bamboo Airways is the FLC Group based in Hanoi. Their main business so far has been in resorts, housing and golf but now they’re branching out into the world of aviation, having placed an order and paid a deposit for 20 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, with an estimated delivery date of 2020 or 2021, and an agreement of purchase is in place for a minimum of 24 Airbus A321neos to be delivered between 2022 and 2025.

Bamboo Airways: an exciting future for American tourists

While it may well be quite some time before we’re seeing Bamboo fly to Vietnam from the US, it’s certainly something to look forward to, to be able to see more of Vietnam without the hassle of lengthy road journeys which is pretty off putting for the average tourist.

Bamboo Airways set to be a hybrid operation

The company has stated that the airline will be a hybrid, mixing both traditional and low-cost models. Their slogan ‘More than a flight’ certainly sounds promising, so we shall have to see what comes from this new airline, it’s definitely pretty exciting news for Southeast Asia, and beyond!
