An Interview with CEO of Sky Airline reveals some fascinating answers to some interesting questions. We take a look at the highlights of this interview which reveal the thought processes behind some very important decisions and Holger Paulmann’s vision for the future for Sky Airline, the second largest airline in Chile.
How it all began for Holger Paulmann
When asked why he chose the aviation industry for his career, he states simply that it is the excitement and the speed at which the industry evolves that attracted him. He thrives on the challenges and the thrill of taking each new step further.
Thoughts on implemented changes to the Sky Airline business model
Changing your entire business model is a huge step, but Sky Airline did this, moving from the standard airline model, to becoming a low-cost airline. Paulmann believes success comes from watching the change in the market, observing how people travel and their habits, then adapting your business to suit these changing needs. The move was a brave one, but it has certainly been successful for Sky Airline.
Holger Paulmann speaks about future strategies
It’s certainly exciting times for Sky Airline. In the pipeline are many major projects. The fleet will be renewed with the addition of 21 brand new Airbus A320neos. These new planes bring the benefit of a greater capacity, so in turn there’s an opportunity to look into new routes, which is something Paulmann confirms will be explored. A move beyond their Santiago base to create centres in other Latin American cities is also on the cards, Paulmann reveals.
Holger Paulmann is enthusiastic about moving the business into other Latin American countries and states that the airline is already looking for financial partners to invest in the expansion. His belief is that the airline’s track record will speak for itself when in talks with any potential partners. Additionally, there may be opportunities to acquire small local airlines and Paulmann fully believes that these two models for growth can exist side by side.
Paulmann comments on the role of IATA
Paulmann also has some positives points to make about the role of IATA in helping to move forward the growth of operators in consolidated and emerging markets. The impact of reduced airport charges and taxes helps the industry to be more competitive, and increased levels of safety across all continents is also a highly pertinent issue.
