Now when you hear the words ‘private’ and ‘plane’ together, you probably think of millionaires and rock stars. But don’t dismiss this concept because it’s not as expensive as you might think, thanks to the new Hitch service from flight sharing app Blackbird. This takes hitching a lift to a whole new level!

Great for passengers, amazing for pilots

Pilots often travel with no passengers at all. That can be several seats, just sat empty. By using the Hitch service from Blackbird, pilots and passengers can now join together and spread costs. If you’re sharing your ride only with a pilot who’s taking the route you wish to travel, you truly could end up on your own private plane. Share your plane with another couple or family, and your costs reduce even further. You could well end up spending less than if you flew with a commercial airline!

Private plane sharing: even more advantages

When you fly on a private plane, everything is just faster. You won’t have to arrive at the airport several hours before your flight, you’ll breeze through any check in and security processes and you’ll be at your destination before you know it. Also, the large commercial jets only fly from major airports. There are so many smaller airports dotted around the country, there may be one near you, and you may well find there are many planes leaving from there that you could hitch a highly convenient lift on.

A unique experience

As well as getting you to where you’re going faster, with less hassle, flying on a small private plane really is a unique experience. If you’re planning a mini-break away for a special occasion, perhaps a birthday or an anniversary, this could be a great way to make the trip that little bit more special. When you’re the only passengers on a small plane, you’ll certainly have a different experience, you can even chat with the pilot! However, it’s worth mentioning that these planes are small, and if you’re not used to them, it can be a bit of a shock just how much these planes move about in the air. If you’re a nervous passenger, or prone to airsickness, it may not be for you, but if you’re a fan of new experiences and keen to try something different, why not look into the next time you’re planning a trip?
