The editors of AirlineRatings.com have revealed the top 10 best airlines in the world at their annual Airline Excellence Awards. This year, they gave the top spot to Singapore Airlines, taking into account  its on-board service, fleet quality, design and safety.

After inaugurating the longest commercial flight this year between Singapore and New York, Singapore Airlines ends the year in style by claiming the title of best airline in the world.

This is the first time that this asian airline has reached the top of this ranking.

To achieve this ranking, seven journalists rated 12 key company criteria: fleet age, passenger reviews profitability, investment rating, product offerings, and staff relations.

Looking at these criteria, the panel of journalists found that Singapore took advantage over Air New Zealand, Qantas Airways and Qatar Airways. Here is the full top 10 ranking:

Best airlines in 2018:

1. Singapore Airlines
2. Air New Zealand
3. Qantas Airways
4. Qatar Airways
5. Virgin Australia
6. Emirates
7. All Nippon Airways
8. EVA Air
9. Cathay Pacific Airways
10. Japan Airlines

Air New Zealand (picture below) won the  Best Premium Economy and Best Airline Pacific awards.

Qatar Airways (picture below) is a new winner in this ranking and picked up coveted Best Catering and Best Business Class.

Australia’s Qantas (picture below) won Best Domestic Airline Service and the Best Lounges.

Korean Air (picture below) won Best Economy for its very spacious cabin.
