For Gulfstream, this is the first international delivery of the G500. The all-new G500 earned its U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) type and production certificates in July 2018 and entered service in September 2018. The Qatar Civil Aviation Authority validated the U.S. type certificate in October.

Qatar Executive, the first G500 International Customer

According to Flightglobal.com, Gulfstream and Qatar Executive, the airline executive private charter division of a Qatar Airways, had announced their collaboration 4 years ago. Qatar Airways established an agreement to buy up to 30 Gulfstream aircraft, including the G650ER, the G500 and the G600 – G500’s sister ship-, with a combination of firm orders and options. After going through an intensive flight-test program, flying 240,760 kms – while achieving 30 City-pair speed records -, the G500 has obtained the U.S. FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) certification and been delivered to Qatar Executive.

G500’s sister ship, the larger G600, which recently had its maximum high-speed range officially increased by 460 miles.

“Gulfstream and Qatar Executive have been good partners since we announced the G500 and their intention to be its international launch customer. We are proud to deliver these aircraft just four years later and after the most rigorous flight-test program Gulfstream has conducted.” said Mark Burns, president, Gulfstream.

Akbar Al Baker, the group CEO or Qatar Airways Group said:

“We are truly delighted to be the international launch customer for the all-new Gulfstream G500 jet. This state-of-the-art aircraft will set a new industry benchmark and will offer our passengers an unrivaled flying experience.”

What it’s like to fly the G500

The G500 has a transatlantic range of 5,984 miles and can comfortably accommodate up to 8 passengers. The cabin pressure is capped at 4,850 feet and the cabin is replenished with fresh air every two minutes, helping reduced jet lag. The passengers will also enjoy flying in one of the industry’s quietest cabins, while gazing out of the 28-inch-wide oval windows.

The aircraft is equipped with state-of-the-art audio, lighting and video which can be controlled via your own smartphone or tablet thanks for Gulfstream’s Cabin Management System. Passengers will also get high high-speed internet, satellite communications, Qatar Airways’s Oryx One entertainment system as well as wireless local area network.

Gulstream’s G500 is powered by the next generation Pratt & Whitney Canada PW800 engines, which are optimised for high-altitude and fast and long-range jets. This means that it can fly non-stop from Los Angeles to London or Los Angeles to Tokyo.

Unveiled on the opening day of Farnborough International Airshow last year, the brand new G500s will be Qatar Executive’s most technologically advanced aircraft, adding to Qatar Executive’s five Gulfstream G650ER which are already in service, as well as Bombardier Challenger 605s, Global 5000s, and a Global XRS, or a total of 15 private jets. Qatar Executive will start chartering the new aircraft later on this year.

Gulfstream, an American wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics, has produced more than 2,800 aircraft for customers around the world since 1958.
