Ever wondered which are the busiest airline routes in the world? Air travel information provider OAG from the UK have gathered information from February 2017 to February 2018 and now reveal the Top 20 busiest routes.
1. Kuala Lumpur – Singapore
Coming in at first place, with the busiest route in the world, is the one hour four minute route between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. This route saw a massive 20,537 flights over 12 months. That’s an average of about 84 flights every single day! That certainly makes you think doesn’t it? It’s a wonder they don’t run into each other, or end up delayed in a ‘plane jam’.
2. Hong Kong – Taipei
The second busiest airline route in the world is the one hour forty-seven minute flight between Hong Kong and Taipei with 28,887 flights in the 12 month survey period.
3. Jakarta – Singapore
Coming in close third is the route between Jakarta and Singapore which saw 27,304 flights.
4. Hong Kong – Shanghai
The route from Hong Kong to Shanghai was flown 21,888 times over 12 months, making it the fourth busiest route in the world.
5. Jakarta – Kuala Lumpur
There were 19,849 flights between Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur during the survey period.
6. Seoul Incheon – Osaka
The Seoul Incheon to Osaka route takes an hour and forty-six minutes to fly and 17,488 planes took this route in 12 months.
7. Hong Kong – Seoul Incheon
The route from Hong Kong to Seoul Incheon is another busy one, with 17,075 flights in 12 months.
8. LaGuardia – Toronto
La Guardia to Toronto is the busiest North American international route, with three carriers providing 16,956 flights over the survey period.
9. Dubai – Kuwait
The busiest Middle Eastern international route is between Dubai and Kuwait with 15,332 flights in a year.
10. Hong Kong – Singapore
Four carriers managed 15,029 flights between Hong Kong to Singapore in 12 months.
11. Bangkok – Singapore
Bangkok to Singapore is similarly busy with 14,859 flights over the period of the survey.
12. Bangkok – Hong Kong
And likewise, Bangkok to Hong Kong, a journey of two hours forty-five minutes saw 14,832 flights.
13. Hong Kong – Beijing
In 13th place is the route between Hong Kong and Beijing. The three hour, twenty minute flight was flown 14,543 times.
14. Dublin – London Heathrow
The 14th busiest route, and the busiest intra-European route is between Dublin and London Heathrow with 14,390 flights. There are only two carriers serving this route, British Airways and Air Lingus.
15. Osaka – Taipei
Ten airlines serve the Osaka – Taipei route with a total of 14,186 flights over the survey period.
16. New York Kennedy – London Heathrow
This transatlantic flight between New York and London saw 13,888 flights over 12 months.
17. Osaka – Shanghai
13,576 flights took this route during the survey. A distance of 1305 kilometers.
18. Seoul – Tokyo Narita
This two hour and twenty minute journey was undertaken 12,517 times.
19. Amsterdam – London Heathrow
Two carriers, British Airways and KLM flew this route 13,179 times in 12 months.
20. Chicago – Toronto
And finally, with 13,100 flights in 12 months, the Chicago – Toronto route is the last of the Top 20 busiest airline routes in the world.
